Updates Updates!!!

Club Update:

So we had our second meeting of the year last week and I just wanted to send out an update to all those who couldn't make it...
we are going to be having several talks coming up in the following months so Mark Your Calenders!!!!!

November 9th - Melissa Luck from Harlow Primate Lab is talking about Primate Enrichment.
November 12th - Saverio "Buddy" Capuano, WNPRC's attending veterinarian, is talking about the UW Lab Animal Medicine Residency Program.
December 4th - Jean Nemzek, D.V.M. from University of Michigan is going to be talking about Humane Endpoints.
December 10th - Jennifer Bacon, UW's first LAM resident, is talking about the residency program as well as how she set up her fourth year externships.

Sign ups will be in the computer lab so put down you name for some free food!!!

Spring talks include:
Marylin Arce, current fourth year and founding president of our club, to talk about her fourth year externships and applying to residency programs.

Jennifer Dreyfus, current third year and founding club treasurer, to talk about the CRL short course she attended last summer. This is an excellent opportunity for those of you interested in this field. It is held from June 16-19 at the Boston Marriott Newton Hotel in Newton, MA. There are 4 scholarships specifically set aside for veterinary students and the application is due April 1, 2008.

We are also planning a couple different panel discussion involving researchers and veterinarians talking about how they got into the field and the ethics behind lab animal medicine.

What else????

Vivarium Tours
We are planning vivarium tours for club members - so please send me dates of when you are free during the week so we can start planning. The tours will be held throughout the UW campus and will allow for 2-3 students to tour facilities for 1-2 hours. As soon as we get dates from you we will put sign up sheets on our board for the times available.

Necropsy's at the WVDL
I have given Dr. Steinberg everyone's email regarding special necropsies and he will notify us about when something interesting comes in for us to take part in. If you want to really ambitious and get out on the floor give me a holler and I can hopefully connect you with a few people who will be more than happy to have you out there helping. Necropsy rounds are held most days at 4:30pm. Jordy, the path club president, is trying to set up an easier way to notify everyone about rounds but until then you can check downstairs in radiology for the board giving the daily schedule.

Sentinel Necropsies
So I finally got a hold of Dr. Coyle and am going to be talking to Dr. Gendron about setting up Saturday labs for this which we will alternate with the Path club. These labs will be through the RARC and should allow for about 3 students to assist or witness small rodent necropsies. When I know more about dates I will notify you all.

also - please let me know if you have any fun ideas for fund raising. I would really like to put a fund together to send some members off to conventions or special trainings.
t-shirt ideas anyone????
